Green Party of Manitoba leader James Beddome will seek election in next year’s provincial general election in Fort Garry-Riverview.
“Fort Garry-Riverview is one of the greenest ridings in Manitoba,” said Beddome. “It is home to numerous organizations, small businesses, and social entrepreneurs who are working to build a healthy, sustainable community. I look forward to working with them to bring a Green voice to the Manitoba Legislature.”
Beddome said the old parties have failed to meet the needs of Manitobans. “Manitobans are rightfully concerned about climate change. They want a secure economic future. And they are outraged by the poverty endured by so many of their fellow citizens. The Green Party will bring a fresh perspective to addressing these and many other important issues.”
Raised on a mixed livestock farm near Rapid City, Manitoba, Beddome has rich experience in agriculture, entrepreneurship, finance, and environmental consulting. As a law student, he ran an eco-friendly transportation company based in the Riverview area. Currently a lawyer at Jerch Law, he specializes in indigenous and environmental law.
Beddome made Manitoba history when he was the first Green to take part in the Leaders’ Debate in the 2011 provincial election. He and his partner, Caitlin, live in the South Osborne area of the riding.
