Having lived almost his entire life in Winnipeg, Roger is aware of many of the issues facing the citizens of Winnipeg and more broadly, Manitoba today. Roger spent his childhood and early adulthood in Fort Garry as one of five siblings. As a young man, he traveled extensively in Europe and Israel taking in much knowledge about the various cultures and histories of the area. To this day, Roger credits the value he places on diversity to these early travels.
Roger graduated from Vincent Massey Collegiate in 1972 and subsequently secured a position in northern Manitoba with Manitoba Hydro. His experience there brought him great respect for the challenges facing northern people and communities. Following his travel to Europe, and while working at the Winnipeg School Division, Roger completed a Power Engineering Certificate at Red River College.
Over a thirty-two year career with the federal government, Roger worked across several departments. His career progression from power engineering and building maintenance, to property management allowed him opportunities to plan and collaborate with a wide range of people and systems. As a believer in lifelong learning, Roger furthered his education in the latter part of his career, achieving various real property management certifications.
While Roger has a gentle and humble presence, the strength of his values and his wisdom ring loud and clear: All people must be treated with respect. All people must have opportunities to thrive and succeed. All people must have equal opportunities and the means for education, good health and well-being, and safe environments. And in the broadest sense, all people must be afforded a sustainable outlook for the future of our world.
Roger and his wife, Fran, have lived in St. Vital for twenty- five years and have a blended family of five children and six grandchildren. They enjoy spending time with family and watching their children and grandchildren grow, love and laugh. Together, Roger and Fran enjoy traveling, spending time with friends, and keeping fit through exercise and activities such as golf, pool, and walking.
