How to become a candidate

Prospective candidates for provincial elections must submit an application form for executive council approval by the specified deadline before being eligible to formally register with Elections Manitoba. Candidates must be members in good standing before the close of nominations, have no outstanding debt to the Green Party of Manitoba, and have not initiated legal action against the Party or any officer of the Party.

Where do you begin?

1. First of all, send us a note to info@greenparty.mb.ca. Tell us about yourself, where you’d like to run as a candidate, and why.
2. Please visit Elections Manitoba if you are unsure of what riding you want to run in. Familiarize yourself with Manitoba’s electoral divisions.
3. Not a member yet? Join the Green Party of Manitoba. Candidates must be members in good standing.
4. Read our governing documents: Candidates should be familiar with, accept and abide by the terms of our Constitution. Our By-laws will inform you how we conduct our business, run our internal elections, choose our leaders, structure and run our council, and tell you about our constituency associations and requirements for candidates, plus a lot more. You must also adhere to the GPM General Code of Conduct and Rules of Procedure.
5. You must fill out an application form, and have it approved by executive council, before you can be eligible for nomination. As the election date has not been set, the deadline for registration has not been set either. We can help navigate you through the process. You just need to take the first steps!
6. You might want to get started on a one-page summary for your candidate profile page on our website. Get a good quality photo of yourself, and write up an introduction to you – who you are, why you are running, what your values and goals are, and why the reader should vote for you.
