FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Green Party of Manitoba will join in National Housing Day, on November 22, by setting up an information tent and participating in a rally at Memorial Park in Winnipeg.
The rally is being held as a protest against Steven Harper’s decision to spend billions of tax payer dollars on mega jails rather than investing in affordable and social housing. Manitoba Attorney General Andrew Swan has indicated his Government's support for the Harper crime bill.
The rally is being organized by the Right to Housing Coalition, a local coalition that advocates for affordable and social housing, and the Red Tent Campaign, a national organization that advocates for a long term sustainable national housing strategy.
“By investing in housing, the economic and social benefits and spin offs are far greater, and generated at a lower cost than spending on Alabama style prisons,” said Green Party Leader James Beddome
