The Green Party has made history in this election - doubling their numbers of candidates, and for the first time, participating in a Manitoba Leaders’ Debate. They are making huge strides in Wolseley, the constituency of James Beddome, Green Party Provincial Leader. The Greens are turning up the heat in the riding, bringing their candidates and volunteers from across the province to help Party Leader James Beddome campaign door-to-door this weekend. Wolseley voters typically support the NDP out of habit, but Green Party canvassers are finding that many residents are reconsidering where to place their ballot.
The Wolseley community is a tight community - it has always been on the forefront of supporting the environmental movement. The constituents there have always gone against the trend. They say no to fogging. They are home to the province’s first organic bakery and were home to the province's first organic food co-op, before organic food was available anywhere else. In fact, many voters in Wolseley can’t believe it isn’t Green already. In his closing remarks at the debate, James Beddome spoke directly to Wolseley voters, who have the power to put the first Green Party candidate into the Manitoba Legislature: "We need Greens in Legislature now. When we vote Green, we all win."
