A Letter from our Leader

10/28/2011

The Green Party made history in the 2011 Provincial Election.  We ran 32 candidates, more than double the number from the 2007 election.  As a result of these numbers as well as the letters and petitions of our members, I became the first Green Party Provincial Leader to take part in the televised Leaders' Debate. This development created a major shift in how the public and the media perceives the party; not only is the Green Party in the forefront when it comes to environmental issues, but it has a broad and practical platform on all issues facing Manitobans, including child poverty and the root causes of crime.

Elizabeth May's visit in September, my participation in the Leaders' debate, and the voices of our candidates at numerous debates, forums and community events, including Harold Dyck's strong testimonies on poverty that were played unedited on CBC radio, created a buzz in the media that continued until election night and beyond.

The public is becoming increasingly aware that the Green Party movement is rapidly growing: internationally, nationally, and provincially.  We are a community-minded, forward-thinking party in which people and the environment count.

The Green Party of Manitoba is excited about moving ahead towards the election in 2015.  We will be increasing our numbers of candidates, continuing to provide the public and media with invaluable critique and context on policies affecting Manitobans, fundraising and campaigning.  Please contact the Green Party of Manitoba if you would like to contribute your skills and vision towards the 2015 election.

Thank you very much for your continued support!

James Beddome

Leader, Green Party of Manitoba
