Top 4 Myths

1. We are anti-business / anti-technology / anti-progress.

False.
Manitoba Greens have great interest in encouraging a thriving economy, but we also believe that a robust economy should not come at the expense of our safety, health or overall well-being.

A good economy is more than increasing the flow of money through the province. It also addresses society's need for clean air and water, a healthy population, and a welcoming environment.

Large businesses are not going to consider establishing themselves here if their employees can't live the lifestyle they want which involve parks and recreation, good schools, adequate provisions for health care and a sense of safety.

2. We're all tree-huggers protesting the use of natural resources.

False.
Manitoba Greens are not against using natural resources, we are in favour of using them in a sustainable manner. We think that this is only common sense. Natural resources are finite; once they are gone, they are gone.

Consider the economic devastation brought about to Atlantic Canada when the cod stocks were depleted. The cod moratorium was a lesson for us all, and it is only good business sense to look at future opportunities to avoid this kind of economic catastrophe from happening in Manitoba.

3. The Green Party is a one issue party.

False.
The Green Party has a broad platform touching on the issues that mean the most to Manitobans; after all, we live here too.

What the Greens base their platform on is the observation that most of the issues Manitobans are concerned about — health care, housing, agriculture, food production, heritage, tourism, infrastructure, transportation, energy, water stewardship, conservation, labour — have a link to the environment.

4. The Green Party is just a fad.

False.
While the Green Party of Manitoba is relatively young, Green politics have been around for decades at the provincial, federal, and international levels.

More than 100 green parties exist worldwide, and dozens of countries have elected Greens; Mexico, New Zealand, Italy, France, Germany, and Finland currently have Greens in their governing coalitions.
