CONCLUDING STATEMENT

Manitoba Greens are committed to developing a sustainable society through design and redesign based on ecological literacy. A key challenge for us now is to question the idea that we should continue to expand the size of our society (locally or globally) and that we should continue to expand our levels of production and consumption. It is clear that there are biological and physical limits to growth that must be recognized. Our current economic system does not recognize these limits and therefore cannot be sustainable.

While other parties advocate "sustainable economic growth" the Greens question the logic behind this goal. We believe that it is time to refocus our economy and society onto well-being, which we mean to include ecological well-being, community well-being, and individual well-being - in that order. This is ecocentric policy-making and it is the most selfish thing we can do as a species because it is the only way we will ensure our sustainability on Earth.

We hope you will join us in working for the world we all know is possible.
